Summits to discover. Areas to promote. An adventure to pass on.
Since 2017, Randomania has been travelling Morocco differently. We explore lesser-known areas, promote their routes and work with local people to share an authentic, responsible and human side of the Moroccan mountains.
Plaque after plaque, the adventure has spread across the High Atlas.
Since 2017, Randomania has been exploring Morocco's natural landscapes with a strong belief: the most beautiful discoveries are not always the best known.
Through our expeditions, we travel through mountains, valleys, villages and sometimes little-used trails to share their natural, cultural and human richness.
Our approach goes beyond hiking. When we identify a summit or a route of real interest to hikers, we work with local people to help promote it, map it and make it known to a wider public.
In this spirit our project of Pioneer Routes : installing identification plaques on certain summits and helping new mountain destinations emerge.
Our first plaque was installed in 2021 on the summit of Bab n'Ouayad, in Imilchil.
Since that first project, the initiative has continued in several areas of the High Atlas: Jbel Aroudane in Zaouiat Ahansal, Jbel Timghazine in Taghia and Jbel Messder-Idde in Imilchil.
Every summit tells a different story. Every route lets us discover an area, meet its people and build new ties with local partners.
A very special thought for M. Abdelghani Smouni — our friend and club member, by our side since the very first plaque. Always the first to encourage and support these initiatives for sustainable rural and mountain tourism, he never stopped believing in this project and supporting it, mission after mission, all the way to the summit. Thank you to him, from the bottom of our hearts.
A big thank you also to everyone who contributed to this adventure, near or far — and especially to the people who showed us these places and guided us there. Without them, these routes would not exist.
A pioneer route is more than a line on a map. It is the result of teamwork between hikers, local guides, residents, hosts and the Randomania team.
Our goal is to share these areas while encouraging respectful use of the mountains and contributing, in our own way, to the local economy.
Sleeping in a local inn, hiring a guide from the region, tasting local products or simply taking the time to talk with residents: every gesture contributes to more responsible tourism.
“These initiatives are certainly demanding but extremely beneficial, and deserve to be encouraged and supported. By supporting mountain tourism and the solidarity economy, we indirectly contribute to the well-being of the local population.”Jalal SafouaneFounder, Club Randomania
We believe mountain tourism should make it possible to discover without spoiling, explore without destroying and share without forgetting the communities that bring these areas to life.
Through the Pioneer Routes, Randomania aims to improve knowledge of the Moroccan mountains and encourage travellers to step off the classic routes to discover other sides of Morocco.
That is the spirit of our Pioneer Routes.
The very first identification plaque installed by Randomania, on February 23, 2021, in partnership with the region's youth and the Chez Bassou inn. It has since become the most visited summit in the area, thanks to its breathtaking view over Lake Tislit — “the bride” of Imilchil's legendary pair of lakes.
3 to 4 hours of walking, moderate elevation gain. Organised departure from Rabat and Casablanca, accommodation in Imilchil. Bab n'Ouayad is 5 km from Imilchil centre, in the heart of the Eastern High Atlas National Park.

After the success of Bab n'Ouayad, a joint Randomania team and a local team from Zaouiat Ahansal installed the club's second identification plaque on the summit of Jbel Aroudane (3359 m), on March 28, 2021. A demanding climb: +1,600 m of elevation gain over just 6.5 km, with snow, ice and strong wind at the summit. Thanks to Dar Ahansal (Zaouiat Ahansal) and the whole local team for their welcome.
Demanding climb from Zaouiat Ahansal, with possible snow, ice and strong wind at altitude — winter gear required.

On June 27, 2021, Randomania installed a new identification plaque on the summit of Jbel Timghazine (3157 m), from the village of Taghia — a climb of +1,100 m elevation gain over about 6 km. Thanks to the local team at Gîte Amil and to Dar Ahansal for their support.
7 to 8 hours of walking. Departure and local transfer from the village of Taghia.

Plaque installed on July 2, 2023, overlooking Lake Isli — “the groom” of Imilchil's legendary pair of lakes, echoing the nearby summit of Bab n'Ouayad and its Lake Tislit. A new route designed to diversify the discovery of the region, with the support of Abdelghani Smouni and the local teams of the Chez Bassou (Imilchil) and Aoujgal (Bou Tferda) guesthouses.
7 to 8 hours of walking, moderate to sustained elevation gain. Messder-Idde is close to lakes Isli and Tislit, about 16 km from Imilchil centre.
